This is, or was supposed to be a Sims 3 blog.
I’d been sporadically recording thoughts and ideas on creating an ‘integrated’ Sims 2 neighbourhood, one with its own own tax system, OFB-driven economy, interacting community, etc. I took notes on everything good I saw and drew up my own system. However the Hood Project didn’t really get past the planning and testing stage. I wanted to start it from scratch, but there was plainly too much building to do, and employee double dipping was driving me nuts.
I ditched the integrated economy idea and decided to wait for TS3 to come out. This was right around when it was announced, so early 2008. TS3 seemed to have potential with a seamless, simultaneously-running neighbourhood. This, I thought, would remove the need for the tedious micromanagent of a “rotation” so I could focus on the big picture.
Fast forward – January 2009, and I dusted off the stack of ideas for my Hood Project. I really get into the brainstorming and backstory-planning of hoods, but fail when it comes to the execution. Despite that I was just waiting for the game to come out and the modding community to kick into gear.
Then EA delayed the game for three and a half months.
I guess this site is a response to that. I thought I would post my thoughts up here for two reasons: 1) to record them all in one place, so I can come back here later and see if any of this is even possible, and 2) for the minute chance that somebody will come along and adopt one of my ideas.
The name
I refer to premades in the blog title because I absolutely hate them cluttering up my game. ESPECIALLY the Standard Townie Library that pops up in every custom hood, and the ‘stealth hoods’ with every EP. I will be very disappointed if TS3 does NOT have the ability to create a clean copy of its premade hood. They’ll probably make you delete all the families yourself. Invitation for disaster.
Precepts is just a neat word. I was so disappointed when I found out that The Presets weren’t called The Precepts.
