Bane of work and life

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Now that I’m back at uni and have a whole lot of extracurriculars on my plate, my attention has drifted from Sims stuff. I did just install High-End Loft Stuff a few days ago and played for around … ten minutes. I’ll get back into it some time, I suppose; I have a couple of interesting mod concepts that are half-done, and one huge one that’s about 1/5 completed, although the upcoming Ambitions EP may throw it for a spin. (more…)

EA’s Q1 2010 Earnings Call

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Old (like 2 months old), but a few choice quotes:

“We’ve planned our launch windows better this year.  As you know, we moved The Sims 3 into Q1 [2010] to give it the best chance of success.”

And:

“… the marketing metrics for a few of our titles are not as strong as we would like to see at this point.  In order to improve this trajectory, we’ve decided to allocate some additional marketing dollars to these titles to better position them.  We are making cost cuts in other parts of the business to fund these initiatives.”

(Must go. Need to wash marketing speak out of brain.)

Hacked!

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Yeah, my site got defaced by some Italian guy (or something). As far as my previous hosting arrangements were concerned, it was the last straw. Seriously, 3IX sucks. They go down all the time and they aren’t such great value for money when you consider that. Also, for some reason, when I logged in today to check out my account (they were offline last night when I discovered I’d been hacked, COINCIDENTALLY) they were listing my password as the default and horrifically-insecure one you get assigned with when you sign up, not the one I changed it to ages ago. Dunno what’s up with that, but if there was an exploit anywhere it would be in my insecure account password.

Anyway, I’ve packed up and moved to greener pastures. I’m now on a faster and more local host (cheers, COVE *clink*), and I have a shiny new domain! I’ve also been rearranging and editing some of my past posts and pages. Regular ranting and whining will resume shortly.

Finished fixing files

Monday, May 18th, 2009

It took a while, but I’ve finished setting up installing WordPress on my own domain (for the fourth time!), setting up the blog, and importing the posts from my old Blogger site (now consigned to the Internet wastes).

I actually spent most of the time doing this tagging, categorising, and editing all of the older articles to look less like obsessively egocentric Sims fan ravings. Fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon, especially while doing it all on a 64k connection.

Introductions

Friday, March 13th, 2009

Wow, these first posts are difficult to write.

This blog is (or will primarily be) about The Sims 3. I had a ton of ideas and thoughts about what to do for the game, but then EA saw fit to delay The Sims 3. So all those ideas went back into the incubator.

One of the main things I want to do is design and build a custom neighbourhood on the model of the ‘integrated economy’ and ‘For Sims By Sims’ hoods out there for TS2. Some great examples of these are in the links section.

However it’s not clear when the neighbourhood editor will come out (if at all) and what the modding potential will be right after release. So until then, this blog will be a repository for my random ideas and inspirations. I have sporadic bursts of creativity and I have the need to write everything down in one place.

The name? Premades refers to the pre-packaged Sims that come with new hoods. Precepts is a cool word.
