Huge missed opportunity here. Here’s my list of suggested traits,
political correctness be damned. Almost all of them were derived from
the ‘opposite’ of the vanilla traits.

Hypochondriac Sims are constantly paranoid about
themselves or their close ones getting sick. They will always think
they are sick and will always get wants about going to the hospital.

Pyromaniac Sims, like Daredevils, are obsessed with
fire; but also desire to possess as many fire-creating objects as
possible. They hate firefighters, because they spoil the fun. Their
lifetime wish: Start 20 Fires. (EA has already insulted sufferers of kleptomania, what’s a few more offended customers?)

Ichthyophobes have an irrational fear of fish. They will avoid fishing, eating fish, having fish in the same household, and cooking with fish. (I had to look it up. Sorry.)

Slow Readers find it difficult to read books, use computers, or do anything requiring reading. It will take much longer for them. They will always struggle with work and school.

Thick Sims are the opposite of Geniuses. They will
argue about things they know nothing about, take longer to build skills
and be much more gullible. They are the object of ridicule.

Prudes will lash out with slaps, lectures and pokes at the slightest hint of PDA. They certainly won’t want to be seen engaging in said activities either.

Spendthrift Sims are the opposite of Frugal Sims. Their
wish is not to make money, but spend it – as much as possible. They are
materialistic, but tend to end up broke due to their incessant wishes
to buy cars and big-screen TVs. (Excellent choice if you want to get
rid of the wealth your legacy family has built up.)

Hack Sims are terrible writers. The best they can churn
out is worthless pulp fiction and terrible articles. They’ll be
randomly sprung for plagiarism because they don’t have an original
thought in their heads.

Conversely, Wordsmith Sims are born writers. Every word
they type is perfect. They’ll finish novels and the like slightly
faster than usual, and the work will be better quality. (I would have expected this from TS3, what about all the new author features?)

Hydrophilic Sims (lol chemistry)
love water. They’ll want to swim, bathe, even drink water all the time.
(Optionally, their bladder fills faster, because they LOVE water so much.)

Polite Sims are the opposite of Inappropriate. They
NEVER step outside social bounds and feel terrible when they do. They
won’t even sit down in a friend’s house until invited to! Sims will have a relationship bonus with them that increases with age. They can
also have hilarious ‘butler-like’ animations and chastise others for bad manners.

Hoarder Sims will have repeated wishes to buy some
random object (say, lamps, or microwaves). They will become
depressed if you sell their stuff (like with the toilets in TS2, but ALL THE TIME). Their LTW might be to own 100 Random Pieces of Crap.

Obsessive Sims will occassionally become fixated on
whatever Sim(s) they are attracted to (even if married!) and
continuously get wishes like ‘talk to X’, ‘visit X’, ‘call X’, ‘get a
job where X works’, etc.

Creepy Sims (perfect compliment to Obsessive) will breathe
loudly, stare for no reason, and generally make it harder for others to
have a conversation with them. (Optionally, they can eat melty candy bars and stand too close to you in line.)

Terrible Cooks will only be capable of making the same
two or three dishes. Even they can’t stand their cooking, and will
always want to eat out. They will burn their food more (but not start
fires more, that’s just mean).

Exhibitionist Sims are the opposite of Never Nudes and
are more than just nudists. Rather than shy away from nudity in
private, Exhibitionists will bear it all whenever and wherever they can
(pool, hot tub, doing chores, local school, etc.) They will probably
receive quite a few public nudity fines. LTW: ‘Be Naked 20 Times In
Public’

Stoic Sims, the opposite of Over Emotional, will only
display one emotion – grim determination. They will never become depressed
or excited. Nothing can crack them.

Wet Blankets shun parties and fun in general. They’ll
be the Sim sitting inside reading a book while a roof-raising party is
happening around them. They also hate dancing, BBQs and birthday cake.

A Sim that Cuts Corners is the opposite of a
Perfectionist. They finish tasks quickly, but the end product usually
sucks. Whether this is a good thing or not is up to you.

Carnivores are diametrically opposed to Vegetarians.
They revel in meat-eating and will feel unease when they eat anything
with a hint of green. Unless the meat is green. That’s OK.

Tone Deaf Sims are utterly awful musicians and will take much longer to build skill.

*Sigh* Will they ever learn…

I don’t know if I’ve expressed it elsewhere on this site, but I don’t like the whimsical nature of the TS3 careers. They should at least pay heed to the notion that the workplaces are visible, that the setting is a medium-size town/city, and that people in the real world don’t get paid for jobs that employers aren’t willing to pay them for. At least in TS2 the action happened offscreen. They could be a bit more imaginative with the settings.

Anyway, here’s my take on what was revealed career-wise.

“Rise through the medical ranks from an Organ Donor to a World-Renowned Surgeon”

In the Sims world surgeons are always superior to physicians and this hasn’t changed. Paid organ donation is technically ILLEGAL.

“Propel your Sim’s career from Paper Boy to Star News Anchor”

Newspaper + TV Station in the same workplace? How will they pull that off?

“Skyrocket your Sim from Latrine Cleaner to Astronaut with the Military Career”

Latrine Cleaner could bear to be a little less specific. Plus if the top job is Astronaut, why not make it a Space career instead? I though

“Take your Sim from a Podium Polisher to the Leader of the Free World”

Ahem. Podium Polisher? There’s like six results for that phrase on Google. Must be a job in high demand if you can get paid for it now. Also, world leaders don’t live in two-bit towns.

“Choose your Sim’s career path! Become a legendary Rock Star or a famous Orchestra Conductor”

Well it seems OK enough, but TS3 still seems to have Rock Guitar-ist Syndrome seeing as there are no ‘classical’ instruments.

“Pursue a career in Science and take your Sim from Test Subject to Mad Scientist”

Wow, exactly the same.

“Choose your Sim’s career path! Will your Sim be a Special Agent of [sic] a Forensic Analyst?”

Law Enforcement? Forensic Analyst sounds like more of a Science job, if your whole career background is in the police force.

“Take your Sim from Rabid Fan to a Sports Legend”

Do Fans get paid to be fans now? Does it depend on how rich and crappy your team is?

“Move your Sim up the corporate ladder from Coffee Courier to Power Broker”

Vagueness, vagueness…bring back the actual positions EA.

“Does your Sim have what it takes to become a Super Villain or Master Thief?”

Super villains??

“Take your Sim from a Kitchen Scullion to a Five-Star Chef”

Scullion = “A servant employed to do menial tasks in a kitchen.” (American Heritage Dictionary). Yes, I had to look up the precise meaning which does not bode well. Less obscure career titles would be appreciated.

Finally, WHERE IS EDUCATION??? We have heard nothing about it. Is it cut or something?

Yay, no oppressive DRM! Rod Humble tells all. Of course, the copy protection remains, because EA aren’t THAT progressive.

What nefarious schemes will EA implement instead? Here are some ideas for them…

1) Intentionally program the game ‘broken’, and release a day-one patch while restricting its downloading as much as possible to genuine owners. Games for Windows Live, etc. Issue a statement on your official forums; don’t acknowledge what you did but apologise for the issues and then accuse people with broken games of piracy. Hilarity ensues.

2) Create an awesome bonus feature for your game that increases its replayability 500% OR makes the game so much more functional that it’s practically a necessity for all serious players. Restrict the Awesome Bonus with a one-time code packaged with new copies of the game. Gamers will complain: “It’s too Awesome! Why isn’t it in the game itself? I don’t want to download it!” Accuse the complainers of being pirates. Six months later, release the update for $10. Leave it out of the ‘game of the year’ edition just to piss off a few more people. Extra points if Awesome Bonus isn’t ready for three months.

3) Package the game with a proprietary content delivery system which is a mandatory install with the game. Make it impossible, or at least heavily frustrating, to play the game without the PCDS running in memory, chewing up system resources. Accuse anyone who complains of being pirates.

I hope EA completely re-invents the idea of sub-neighborhoods (found in Uni, NL, OFB even though it was pretty superfluous, and AL) in The Sims 3. With the seamless neighborhood, sub-hoods would be a reversion to TS2′s ‘every home is an island’ timekeeping. That would suck. It would be a step backward.

With the additional possibility that players have custom hoods, they’re going to need a creative way of ‘expanding’ the play area and allowing access to those features. I believe they will do this with ‘ploppable’ community lots, and creating a new town in each EP (not so much to ask for, is it?)

Anyway, here’s my wish-list of additional buildings:

A golf course. Golf! If any sport could be plausibly integrated with The Sims 3, golf would be it. Sims could also work there in a special Golfer career. It would be fun to take them out for a round and see them walking around the course, which I’d imagine would be one huge, flat rabbit-hole of a building. (or gopher-hole.)

On the same theme: other sports places. It could be the theme for a whole EP. Football/soccer, baseball, paintball (?)

An airport if there’s going to be a vacation EP. Could tie in with working as a Pilot.

A bank if EA wants to do a business EP. Criminals could hold up the bank! Sims could deposit/withdraw money there to make interest (or over the phone/computer) or to borrow money. This IS wishful thinking, I know – EA doesn’t care about economic realism!

A TV Station for a show business type career or TV journalist.

Remember the Tourist Trap from Simcity 4? Or an Amusement Park. Or a Carnival. Or a Castle! Give our Sims the opportunity to run hotels and engage in Fawlty Towers-style shenanigans.

An open market. Would tie in well with Seasons: in winter-time it could be a like a Christmas market like those in Germany. Autumn could be a farmer’s market. Summer, a flea market; spring, something else…maybe a food festival?

Wow, these first posts are difficult to write.

This blog is (or will primarily be) about The Sims 3. I had a ton of ideas and thoughts about what to do for the game, but then EA saw fit to delay The Sims 3. So all those ideas went back into the incubator.

One of the main things I want to do is design and build a custom neighbourhood on the model of the ‘integrated economy’ and ‘For Sims By Sims’ hoods out there for TS2. Some great examples of these are in the links section.

However it’s not clear when the neighbourhood editor will come out (if at all) and what the modding potential will be right after release. So until then, this blog will be a repository for my random ideas and inspirations. I have sporadic bursts of creativity and I have the need to write everything down in one place.

The name? Premades refers to the pre-packaged Sims that come with new hoods. Precepts is a cool word.
